This year, I have a request for a donation to an important project. If you have my name (or even if you don't!), the best thing I can ask for is a few dollars in support of a project a good friend of mine is working on. It is a documentary film about a death penalty case in Northern Virginia. I've met the inmate, Justin Wolfe, several times, and am disturbed every time I see him by the fact that he simply does not belong on death row. He reminds me of every kid I went to high school with, and his case troubles me as much as any case I've worked on. It's a compelling story, it needs to be told, and my friend is trying to raise $5,000 to tell it. You can read more about the project and, if you're so inclined, make a donation by clicking here or here.
If you would rather not donate to this project, here are a few other ideas:
I would like t-shirts from local Cleveland establishments, places like the West Side Market Cafe, or Gypsy Coffee Shop, or any cool places along those lines that will impress my friends in Virginia. Size XL, or if it looks really big, a large might be OK. I realize I'm totally setting myself up with this request, but there it is.
Or, one of the following books:
James McManus, Cowboys Full: The Story of Poker
Leonard Cohen, Beautiful Losers
Bill Simmons, The Book of Basketball: The NBA According to the Sports Guy
Or, a surprise!

You mention the West Side Market as a cool place but must have overlooked a little place called Farkas Pastry which was written up in the PD last week for their eggnog napoleons and, believe it or not, apple pies. Shouldn't be a problem getting any of their gear in XL.
I googled Justin Wolfe and read his story and it certainly seems like an innocent young man might lose his life. I thought about that and the fact the OJ was golfing for years after murdering two people and I am more convinced than ever of the random nature of events. I would fund the documentary myself if I could but money is really tight right now, and I hestitate to mention it, but there is an education fund for a certain Indian prodigy that I would like to donate to. ( To be honest about it, I can't believe the price of a quality education at Cuyahoga Community College will be that great in 17 years.)
Farkas Pastry gear would be awesome.
And c'mon Anonymous -- I'm as concerned as anyone in this family about the cost of college tuition (not that any of mine will be going), but we all know that little Kai is a shoo-in for a merit scholarship.
And hopefully I'll also be awarded several scholarships for diverse students, since I am a half-breed.
Um, OK. Who's drunk-posting on the family gift exchange website?
